PENDAMPINGAN IBU NIFAS DALAM UPAYA KEBERHASILAN PEMBERIAN ASI EKSKLUSIF MELALUI EDUKASI DAN KONSELING LAKTASI DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS PITURUH, KABUPATEN PURWOREJO, JAWA TENGAH

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is a health intervention proven effective in improving infant health status and reducing infant morbidity and mortality. The Butuh Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Purworejo Regency is a primary healthcare facility providing maternal and child health services, including care for pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and newborns, as well as family planning services. Preliminary coordination with the health center revealed that some postpartum mothers faced difficulties with breastfeeding techniques, breast care, and managing lactation issues, alongside a lack of motivation to maintain exclusive breastfeeding for six months. The objective of this community service activity was to enable postpartum mothers to understand the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, correctly apply lactation management practices, and maintain the motivation to exclusively breastfeed for six months. The activity employed an educational approach using lectures supported by PowerPoint presentations and leaflets explaining exclusive breastfeeding and lactation management. Outcomes were assessed via pre- and post-tests, which showed an increase in the mothers' knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding and lactation management; the educational activity proceeded successfully, and there was also an increase in family involvement in supporting exclusive breastfeeding. In conclusion, the intervention resulted in improved knowledge among postpartum mothers regarding exclusive breastfeeding and lactation management, as well as increased family support.
